FAQs

What is depth therapy? Depth therapy is a form of psychotherapy that explores the underlying, often unconscious, layers of the mind. Rooted in the work of Jung, Freud, Assagioli, and other psychoanalytic thinkers, it goes beyond surface-level issues to uncover and address deeper patterns, repressed memories, and unresolved conflicts that influence thoughts, behaviours, and emotions. Techniques (beyond talking) may include dream analysis, guided imagery, free association, and exploration of symbols.

Why choose depth therapy over other types of therapy? Depth therapy is particularly beneficial for individuals seeking to understand the roots of persistent emotional challenges, patterns, or life questions. Unlike solution-focused or cognitive therapies (for example, CBT), depth therapy prioritizes self-awareness and personal growth, helping clients uncover and integrate unconscious material for lasting change. It is well-suited for those experiencing burnout, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, or searching for deeper meaning and purpose.

What issues can depth therapy help with?
Depth therapy can help with a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Burnout and boreout

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Relationship and intimacy issues

  • Trauma and unresolved childhood experiences

  • Questions of meaning, purpose, and identity

  • Repetitive patterns or self-sabotaging behaviors

  • Professional and life path questions

How long is a typical session? Sessions are usually 50 minutes long, which is considered the standard "therapy hour." Longer sessions of 75 or even 100 minutes can be arranged for more intensive work or couples’ therapy.

How often do sessions occur? Sessions are held weekly, as this regular rhythm is essential for building momentum and maintaining focus in the work. Weekly sessions provide a consistent space for deeper exploration and allow trust and progress to develop steadily, making the therapeutic process more effective and meaningful.

How long does a course of depth therapy last?
The duration of treatment can vary:

  • Short-term work (6–12 sessions) may be appropriate for specific issues with clear goals.

  • Deeper, more open-ended work—such as addressing longstanding patterns or past trauma—can be longer-term and is tailored to the client’s pace and needs. This is the model most clients engage in.

  • Ultimately, therapy continues for as long as you find it beneficial, with regular reviews to assess progress.

What are the credentials of the therapist? Kathleen is a BACP Accredited therapist, which denotes a higher standard of practice than regular BACP registration.  She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the Psychosynthesis Trust (Level 7).  She has a Diploma in Gender, Sex, and Relationship Diversity Therapy from Pink Therapy (Level 6), and a Foundation Certificate in Jungian Analytical Psychology from the Society of Analytical Psychology.  She is currently a Training Candidate in Psychoanylysis at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland.

How much does therapy cost? A standard 50-minute session costs £165.  The intro session is 1 hour long and at a discounted rate of £100.

How do I know if depth therapy is right for me? Depth therapy is ideal for individuals interested in exploring the deeper roots of their challenges, those seeking lasting change, or anyone feeling stuck despite previous attempts at therapy. If you value self-reflection and are willing to engage in a process that may be abstract and open-ended, depth therapy may be a good fit.

What happens in a depth therapy session? Sessions involve a collaborative exploration of your current concerns, past experiences, and unconscious patterns. Techniques may include reflective dialogue, dream analysis, guided imagery, and discussion of significant memories or symbols. The therapist provides a safe, confidential space to process emotions and insights as they arise.

Is depth therapy confidential? Yes. Confidentiality is a core value, and all sessions are conducted in a private, secure setting. Information shared during therapy is not disclosed without your explicit consent, except in rare cases where required by law.

What is your cancellation policy?  Life is dynamic, and we understand that travel and unexpected commitments are part of a modern professional’s schedule. If you know you’ll be away, simply let us know in advance so we can plan around your absence—sessions can often be rescheduled or conducted online if you wish to maintain continuity while travelling. For cancellations, we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice; late cancellations or missed sessions may incur a fee, as your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you. This policy helps ensure consistency and respect for both your time and the therapeutic process.

What about holidays?  We encourage holidays, both for our clients and ourselves!  You can generally expect your therapist to be taking ~2 week breaks in December/January and in August, with shorter breaks throughout the year. For your holidays, please just let us know as far in advance as possible as it makes diary management simpler.

Do you offer online and in-person sessions? Yes. Sessions are available both online and in-person to accommodate your preferences and schedule.

How do I get started? Contact us to arrange a free intro call. This is an opportunity to discuss your needs, ask further questions, and determine whether depth therapy—and this therapist—are the right fit for you. After that, you may arrange an Introductory Session - this is a discounted 1 hour session which is mostly finding out about you, your biography, and what is bringing you to therapy. After that, we will arrange a regular weekly time to meet.
